Pedro L. Vargas

Pedro Luis Vargas, 73, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by the love of his devoted family.

Pedro was born on July 30, 1952, in Lima, Peru, to Trinidad Vargas and the late Matilda (Baldeon) Vargas. In 1985, he immigrated to the United States in search of greater opportunity and a brighter future for his family. He ultimately made his home in Springfield, Massachusetts, where he built a life defined by hard work, dedication, and deep love for those around him.

Pedro had a lifelong passion for soccer and rarely missed the chance to follow a match, especially when cheering on his beloved Peruvian team, Club Alianza Lima.

Above all else, Pedro’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He cherished every moment spent with them—whether gathered around the table, sharing stories, or celebrating life’s everyday moments. A hardworking man with a generous heart, Pedro was a loving and devoted husband, a proud father, and an adoring grandfather.

Pedro will be remembered for his warm spirit, infectious laughter, and the bright smile that could light up any room. He had a natural gift for humor and loved to tell jokes. His kindness, positivity, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

He leaves his wife of 52 years, Rosa A. (Navarro) Vargas and his daughters, Selena Sanchez and her husband Felipe, Olga Barrera and her husband Dennis, Rosa M. Vargas, and Katherine Vargas and her partner Benjamin Lester III, all of Springfield and a son, Juan Vargas of Hartford, CT. He also leaves his father Trinidad Vargas and his wife; 6 grandchildren, Luis David Barbosa, Ashley Madera, Anthony Vargas, Kayla Vargas, Jayden Barrera, and Benjamin Lester IV; a great-grandson Maddox Barbosa; 6 brothers and 3 sisters, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family members and many friends.

Calling hours will be held at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 from 5-7pm followed by a prayer service at 7pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at 11am followed by burial at Hillcrest Park Cemetery in Springfield.

Pedro Luis Vargas, de 73 años, falleció en paz el 15 de marzo de 2026 en la comodidad de su hogar, rodeado del amor de su devota familia.

Pedro nació el 30 de julio de 1952 en Lima, Perú, hijo de Trinidad Vargas y de la fallecida Matilda (Baldeon) Vargas. En 1985 emigró a los Estados Unidos en busca de mayores oportunidades y de un futuro mejor para su familia. Finalmente estableció su hogar en Springfield, Massachusetts, donde construyó una vida definida por el trabajo arduo, la dedicación y un profundo amor por quienes lo rodeaban.

Pedro tuvo una pasión de toda la vida por el fútbol y rara vez perdía la oportunidad de seguir un partido, especialmente cuando animaba a su querido equipo peruano, Club Alianza Lima.Por encima de todo, el mayor orgullo y alegría de Pedro fue su familia. Atesoraba cada momento que pasaba con ellos, ya fuera reunidos alrededor de la mesa, compartiendo historias o celebrando los momentos cotidianos de la vida. Hombre trabajador y de corazón generoso, Pedro fue un esposo amoroso y dedicado, un padre orgulloso y un abuelo lleno de cariño.

Pedro será recordado por su espíritu cálido, su risa contagiosa y la brillante sonrisa que iluminaba cualquier habitación. Tenía un don natural para el humor y le encantaba contar chistes. Su amabilidad, positividad y sentido del humor dejaron una huella duradera en todos los que tuvieron la fortuna de conocerlo.

Le sobreviven su esposa durante 52 años, Rosa A. (Navarro) Vargas, y sus hijas: Selena Sánchez y su esposo Felipe; Olga Barrera y su esposo Dennis; Rosa M. Vargas; y Katherine Vargas y su pareja Benjamin Lester III,  todos de Springfield y un hijo Juan Vargas de Hartford, CT. También deja a su padre, Trinidad Vargas y su esposa; seis nietos: Luis David Barbosa, Ashley Madera, Anthony Vargas, Kayla Vargas, Jayden Barrera y Benjamin Lester IV; un bisnieto, Maddox Barbosa; seis hermanos y tres hermanas, además de numerosos sobrinos, sobrinas, otros familiares y muchos amigos.

Las horas de velación se llevarán a cabo en Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services el miércoles 18 de marzo de 2026 de 5:00 a 7:00 p.m., seguidas por un servicio de oración a las 7:00 p.m. Los servicios fúnebres se realizarán en la funeraria el jueves 19 de marzo de 2026 a las 11:00 a.m., seguidos del sepelio en el cementerio Hillcrest Park Cemetery en Springfield.
