Pio A. Carestia, 100, passed away at home on July 25, 2023 surrounded by the care and comfort of his family. Born in Springfield on December 10, 1922 to the late John and Stella (Morace) Carestia, he was a lifelong resident of the city and a graduate of Springfield Technical High School. Pio served honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked as a machinist for 47 years at Northern Tool and Die, retiring in 1989. Pio was an accomplished and talented woodworker.
He leaves his children: Paul Carestia and his significant other Anne Marie Carestia of Springfield and Mary Ann LaDuke and her partner Tiffany Daly of Harwich; his beloved grandchildren: Vincent LaDuke and his wife Katie, Dominic LaDuke and his wife Aimee, Amanda Quiterio and her husband Brandon, and Julie Carestia; 5 great-grandchildren (with 2 on the way), along with other family members and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley (Perry) Carestia in 1993 and his 6 siblings.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service with military honors on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at 1:00pm at St. Michael Cemetery, 1601 State St., Springfield.
