Ray “Red” Linger, 80, of Ludlow, died January 9, 2025 at Care One Redstone in East Longmeadow. Born in Flushing, NY on Dec. 26, 1944, he was the son of the late Ray and Gertrude (Lavallee) Linger, Sr.
Red was a graduate of Cathedral High School. He then entered the U. S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War from 1963-1967 when he was honorably discharged. He was a long-time employee of Orchard Variety. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 277, the Fairfield Fish & Game and the Tiger AC. Red was a long-time season ticket holder for Springfield ice hockey, and was an avid fan of Notre Dame football.
Red is survived by his wife of 35 years, Rosemary A. (Demers) Linger and a sister, Patricia Linger.
Funeral Services for Red will be held on Thursday, Jan. 16, with Calling Hours from 9am-11am at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield. A Prayer Service will follow in the funeral home at 11:15am, with Committal Services and Military Honors in the chapel of the MA Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Agawam at 1pm.
