Robert Armand Blais, 92, passed away July 21, 2023 at Baystate Medical Center. Bob was born and raised in Indian Orchard, MA, the youngest of 7 children of the late Cleophas and Yvonne (LeBlonde) Blais and was a Ludlow resident since 1955. He graduated in 1947 from Springfield Trade School at the age of 16. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Conger, and later on the Newman K. Perry during the Korean Conflict. Bob worked as a machinist for several local manufacturing companies, retiring from Center Machine at age 57, and enjoyed a long and happy retirement. He was a talented woodworker and wood carver, and enjoyed antique dealing and traveling. He was an avid gardener, especially tending to the irises and daylilies that adorned his yard. Most especially, Bob was passionate about his family who meant the world to him.
He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Carol (Moore) Blais; a beloved daughter, Vivian Morrissey, and his siblings: Joseph, Romeo “Tony”, Claire, Ernest, Roland, and Florence. He leaves his loving children: Gail Blais of Colchester, CT, Robert C. Blais and his wife Susan of Warren, Joanne Bell and her husband Gregory of Wilbraham, David Blais and his wife Sherry of Hampden, and James Blais and his wife Kathleen of Panama City Beach, FL; his cherished companion of 7 years, Carolyn Wikar; 22 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023 at 10:30am at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield followed by burial with military honors at Island Pond Cemetery, Ludlow. Calling hours will be held Sunday, August 6 from 2-4pm and also on Monday, August 7 from 9:30-10:30am at the funeral home.
