Robert R. “Randy” Mercer, 71, of Chicopee died Friday, August 12, 2022 at the Hartford Hospital. Born in New Bedford, MA on March 2, 1951, he was the son of the late Robert R. Mercer, Jr. and Evelyn (Waskiewicz) Mercer.
Randy lived in Holyoke for seven years, and then in South Hadley for fifteen years prior to his move to Chicopee ten years ago. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1971-1975.
Randy worked as a mechanic for the Ryder Truck Rental Co. and Boston Trailer until he retired in 2016. He was a mode railroad enthusiast, and past president of the Westfield Model Railroad Club. He was also an avid fly fisherman and took great pride in making his own flies.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janice A. (Zebrowski) Mercer, two daughters, Allison Lachance (Jason) of Bondsville and Erica Mercer Day (Eric) of Three Rivers, two brothers, James Mercer of South Hadley and Russell Mercer of Bellows Falls, VT, as well as two granddaughters, Neila J. Lachance and Cora L. Lachance.
Services for Randy were held privately by his family. Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services of Springfield is assisting the family.
