Shannon Dunn Obituary

Shannon Michael Dunn, 48, of Springfield, MA, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with Huntington’s Disease.

Born on August 5, 1977, and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts, Shannon was spirited and funny, stubborn in the best way, and unapologetically himself. He had a smile that could light up a room. In his younger years, he could always be found outdoors; water skiing, skateboarding, or riding bikes with friends. He had a deep love for hip-hop music and could often be found driving around listening to music in his favorite black Acura.

He loved animals and had a special bond with his cat Pumpkin, who stayed close to him throughout his illness and would even come to visit him at Western Massachusetts Hospital. He will now be reunited with his beloved cats Bear, Twerp, Sophie and Minnie.

Shannon’s family surrounded him with love throughout his illness. His mother, Cheryl Dunn, was his constant caregiver and loved him unconditionally. His brother, Ryan Dunn, and his sister, Jennifer Dunn Zollo, offered support, laughter, and companionship every step of the way. He will also be missed by his sister’s husband John Zollo. Shannon was adored by his nephew Zachary and his nieces Emma and Gabby, who brought him joy and brightened his days.

He was predeceased by his father, James Dunn and his Grandparents Roger and Jean Bush. Shannon also leaves behind many other loving family members and friends.

He shared lifelong friendships with Shawn Morris, Dion Keaton, Vincent Ross, Frankie Rodriguez, Matt Mcleish, Rob Holmes, Chris Phelps and his cousin Timothy Dunn as well as many others. Each friendship held special memories, loyalty, and brotherhood that truly mattered to him.

Shannon’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Western Massachusetts Hospital, who cared for Shannon over the past six years. They treated him with respect, patience and genuine love. Many who were more than caregivers-they became family.

Shannon’s life was defined not by his illness, but by his heart, his humor, and the relationships he formed. His legacy lives on in the stories shared, the laughter he created, and the people who will forever hold him close.
