Sharon Frances (Desautels) Cormier, 66, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025, following a courageous battle with Leiomyosarcoma. She was surrounded by her loving family and displayed the grace and dignity she exhibited throughout her life. Born in Springfield on January 28, 1959, to the late George and Shirley Desautels, Sharon was a longtime resident of Ludlow. A member of the last class to graduate from St. Aloysius Grammar School in 1972, Sharon went on to graduate from Ludlow High School in 1976 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts in 1981.
Sharon’s career in service to those with disabilities began at Belchertown State School. When Belchertown began depopulating in 1988, Sharon played a pivotal role in opening one of the first community residences in Western Mass, setting the stage for a 37-year career with the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services.
Sharon met Dana Cormier in 1989. They fell in love and married in 1991. The wedding was held at St. Joan of Arc Church in Orleans followed by an oceanside reception at the Chatham Bars Inn. The Cape became a cherished retreat for the couple and for 31 years they enjoyed a second home, first in East Orleans before relocating to Brewster in 2016. Sharon will be remembered as a compassionate and caring person. She gave so much to so many and was loved by all those who had the good fortune to know her.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Dana Cormier; her sons, Joseph Cormier of Watertown and Brian Cormier and his fiancé Jessica Sanches of South Berwick, Maine; her sisters, Susan Galvin and her partner Jack Ruell of Ludlow and Sandra Desautels of West Springfield; nieces Jolene Galvin-Yerckie of Scottsdale, AZ and Jennifer Galvin of Easthampton and nephew James Desautels-Dillon of MA, along with other extended family members and many friends.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025 from 4:00-7:00pm at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025 assembling at 9:00am at the funeral home and proceeding to Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church, 417 Boston Rd, Springfield, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am.
