Silvino Ferreira Pio

Silvino Ferreira Pio of Ludlow. Born in Aljubarrota, Alcobaca Portugal, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield after a brief illness, surrounded by family.

Predeceased by his mother Joaquina (Faustina) Pio -Turquel Alcobaca, Portugal and father Jose Pio -Aljubarrota, Alcobaca Portugal.

Leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Maria São Pio of Ludlow, daughter Lisa Pio Brecher and partner Joe Pietrocola, and his beloved grandson Maxwell Brecher whom he adored, all of South Hadley. He also leaves behind sisters Fernanda Pereira of Ludlow and Maria “Tinica” Duarte of Florida as well as his brother Joe Pio of Florida. He took so much pride in being their big brother. He meant so much to his many nieces, nephews, godchildren and to so many aunts, cousins and friends. His godson Pedro Pereira was the son he never had. 

Silvino served in the Portuguese Army and was stationed in Angola from 1968-1970. He immigrated to America in 1971 and was a machinist at Jahn Foundry in Springfield for many years. He was most well known as the caterer for Tony and Penny’s restaurant where he also worked for over twenty years. His Tony and Penny’s colleagues over the years were like family.

A longtime member of both the Chicopee Portuguese American Club and Gremio Lusitano Club in Ludlow where he would enjoy rooting on his favorite soccer club Benfica. He also loved to dance and was quite good at it.

He will be remembered for his sense of humor, the joy he brought to every situation and his loyalty to those he loved. 

Calling Hours for Silvino will be held on Monday, October 6, from 4-7pm at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield. Silvino’s funeral will be on Tuesday, October 7, gathering at the funeral home for 10am followed by his Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 438 Winsor St., Ludlow at 11am. Silvino’s burial will follow in the Reservoir Cemetery, 1870 Center St., Ludlow.
