Mr. Vernard “Lefty” King, 93, of Ludlow, died June 19, 2026 at the Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer. Born in Piermont, NH on December 1, 1932, he was the son of the late Richard & Lillian (Bresse) King.
Following his graduation from high school, Vernard enlisted in the Air Force and served for four years during the Korean War. He worked for many years as a tractor trailer driver, and was a member of the Teamsters, Local 1459, until he retired at the age of 62.
He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Anne R. (Gibbs) King who died in 2010, as well as his brother, William C. King.
Vernard is survived by his children, daughters, Vernadette Ortiz and husband Nelson, Faith King and her partner James Page, Donna Fountain, son, Gary A. King and his fiancée Dora Schools, five grandchildren, James Page, Gregory King, Lindsay King, Michael King and Tyler King, two great-grandchildren, Anna and Cameron King carrying on their grandpa’s legacy for the love of baseball, and many nieces and nephews.
