Verne W. Usher, 93, passed away January 29, 2025 at Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer. Born on November 15, 1931, in Springfield, he was the son of the late Forrester and Irene (Gaboury) Usher. Raised in the Forest Park neighborhood of Springfield, Verne made Wilbraham his home for the past 61 years. He proudly served for nine years with the National Guard in Westfield. Alongside his wife, Beverly, they owned and operated Dairy Mart and Quick Pic on Carew Street, serving the community and building lasting relationships with many loyal customers.
For over 40 years, Verne enjoyed spending winters in Fort Myers Beach, Florida, where he developed close friendships with fellow residents of his condo community. He was an avid racquetball player for more than 60 years. He was also a dedicated animal lover, rescuing and caring for animals throughout his life.
He leaves his beloved wife of 67 years, Beverly (Combs) Usher and his loving daughters, Donna Muska and her partner Thomas Butler, IV of Springfield, Sharon Strange and her husband David of Belchertown, Lori Muniz and her husband Albert of Gainesville, FL and Jacki Yasin and her husband Sam of Coconut Creek, FL. His 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren will dearly miss their Poppy. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother Forrester Usher, Jr., a sister Jeanette Carmody, and a son-in-law, Gerald Muska.
Services for Verne will be held at a future date. Arrangements are entrusted to Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services.
