William Allen, III Obituary

William H. Allen III, 88, of Indian Orchard MA passed away on June 6, 2025 at East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 3, 1936 in Springfield, MA to the late Adelaide (Bickley) and William H. Allen, Jr. Bill graduated from Springfield Technical High School in 1954. He later married his high school sweetheart Joan Dominique on October 6, 1956. When he was first married Bill worked as a draftsman for Chapman Valve and later joined the family business, Snak Time Vending in Indian Orchard, founded by his father, where he worked for many years.

His lifelong involvement in Drum Corps began in his teen years. He was a proud member of The Marksmen and The Targets and also shared his skills as a drill and drum instructor with the St. George Olympians. A devout communicant of Christ the King Church in Ludlow, Bill’s Catholic faith was a cornerstone of his life and he was a dedicated supporter of the Pro-Life Movement. He was also a former lecturer and CCD teacher at St. Matthews Church in Indian Orchard. Bill was a loving and caring father and grandfather and will be remembered for his great sense of humor.

Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife Joan Allen in 2021 and a brother Herbert Allen. He will be dearly missed by his daughters: Deborah L. LaFave and her husband, Gary of Brewster MA, Denise M. Moran of DeBary, FL., and Donna L. Bliesener and her husband, Amos of Southwick MA.; 6 grandchildren: Sharon Dargis; Alan Dargis Jr., Sarah Wood and her husband Aaron; Michael LaFave and his wife Danielle, Amber Bradway and her husband Joshua, and Amanda Ferullo and her husband Marc; 9 great-grandchildren: Delaney, Lennon, Myles, Nathan, Ryan, Jacob, Matthew, Ayden, and Jameson; his sister Roberta Thompson; sister-in-law Maureen Allen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other extended family members and friends.

A Calling Hour will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025 from 9-10AM at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM at Christ the King Church, 44 Warsaw Ave., Ludlow. Burial will be held privately by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (online at www.stjude.org).
