William Jason Castro, 36, of East Longmeadow and Indian Orchard, died unexpectedly at home on June 10, 2024. Born in Brookhaven, Long Island, New York, he was the son of Hector Fabio Castro of Indian Orchard and the late Nubia Ines (Franco) Castro.
Will served as a captain in the Air Force Reserves and was called to active duty on two occasions, October, 2019 – March 2020, and September, 2022 – May, 2023, when he served as a flight nurse. Will had also worked for many years in many different nursing capacities at Baystate Medical Center.
He was a wonderful son and brother and a very proud “Tio Jay”. He was always on the lookout for a good deal which invariably ended up as a nice gift to a lucky recipient. He was also a “child at heart” and loved penguins and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He will be greatly missed by all that were lucky enough to know him.
In addition to his father, Will is survived by his sister, Jessenia Navarro of Springfield, his brother-in-law Edson Navarro, his nephew Jenson and niece Analia, as well as his grandmother, Luz Castro, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and his military family.
Calling Hours for Will will be on Monday, June 17 from 4-7pm at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield. His funeral will be on Tuesday, June 18, gathering at the funeral home at 10am and processing to Blessed Sacrament Church, 40 Waverly St., Springfield for his 11:30am Funeral Mass . Committal Services with Military Honors will follow in the chapel of the Mass. Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Main St., Agawam at 1pm.
