William “Billy” Gene Vieu, 68, of Springfield, MA, passed away peacefully at home on February 22, 2024. Born in Holyoke on February 27, 1955 to the late Claire (Drasye) and Herman Vieu, he graduated from South Hadley High School where he played on the Varsity soccer team and they became division champions his senior year. From there Billy went in to the United States Navy where he proudly served as an aircraft mechanic during the Vietnam War. Following his service he worked for years as a contractor, and was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone he met. Billy enjoyed his daily trips to Dufresne Park where he befriended many dogs and their owners, enjoyed fishing and teaching others how to fish. Throughout the years Billy enjoyed spending his free time by hunting and deep sea fishing with his brother Kenny and friends.
He leaves his beloved partner of 20 years, Cheryl Vieu, her four children, Lisa, Eric, Kate and Jake and their children. Billy was predeceased by his sister Debbie Rivette, and leaves behind his other siblings and their spouses, Kenneth Vieu and wife Cindy, Tina Zalowski and husband Richard, Lori Gagnon, Pamela Jenks-Provo and Donna Smith-Lyon. He leaves his lifelong friends, Art and Dean as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends whom he loved dearly.

Committal services with military honors will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 9:00am in the chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services is entrusted with arrangements.
