William "Tom" T. McCarthy

William Thomas “Tom” McCarthy, 73, passed away at home on June 2, 2026. Born in Springfield on August 30, 1952 to the late John “Ox” and Shirley (Haskins) McCarthy, he was a lifelong Springfield resident. Tom spent many years working alongside his father at The Keg Room. He was an ironworker by trade and a member of the Ironworkers Local 7 Union.

A passionate guitar enthusiast, Tommy found joy in both playing and building guitars. Music was a constant presence in his life, with a special appreciation for rock and roll, particularly The Grateful Dead and Metallica. Though quiet and thoughtful by nature, he found happiness in life’s simple pleasures such as tending his vegetable garden, spending time outdoors, and sharing cherished moments with his beloved dog, Popeye.

He leaves his partner of 50 years, Deborah Alves; his daughters, Nicole McCarthy-Alves of West Palm Beach, FL and Jennifer Tatro and her husband Steven of Ludlow; his grandchildren, Zachary and Sarah Tatro; his sisters, Kathy Halpy, Karen Spindler, Diane Lareau, and Deborah O’Malley, all of Springfield; his step-brothers, Ryan McCarthy of Wilbraham and Jack McCarthy of Longmeadow, along with other extended family members, close friends and his fur grand-pups, Chase and Ozzy.
