Josephine A. Witowski, 96, passed away peacefully after a short illness on September 30, 2015.  Born in Springfield, MA on September 5, 1919, she lived most of her life in Indian Orchard.  She was the daughter of Michael and Apolonia Bajorek and was a lifetime communicant of the Immaculate Conception Parish.  She was predeceased by her husband Stanley in 1994 and four siblings: Julia Misiaszek, Jane and Walter Bajorek and Anna Maliga.  She is survived by her two children: Thomas Witowski and his wife Winona of East Longmeadow and Elizabeth Colby and her husband Kenneth of Tolland, CT; and a brother, Stanley Bajorek of Indian Orchard.  She also leaves 4 grandchildren: Amy Wesley and her husband Brian of Feeding Hills, MA; Eric Witowski and his wife Sarah of Enfield, CT; Kenneth Colby, Jr. and his wife Christine of Hollis, NH; and Christopher Colby and his partner Mandy Lacourse of Portland, ME.  She also leaves 7 great-grandchildren and many friends, nieces and nephews. 

Josephine was a very strong and caring woman who lived independently at home until her illness.  She worked for many years at Cromwell and Mayfair Mills in Indian Orchard.  She was a past member of the Rosary Sodality and the Ludlow Golden Agers.  She was very proud of her Polish heritage and enjoyed participating in Polish holiday traditions with her family. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Felician Sisters, 1315 Enfield St., Enfield CT 06082 or to the charity of one’s choice. 

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 25 Parker St., Indian Orchard. Burial will follow at St. Aloysius Cemetery.
